Mother always lived life to the fullest-and she ALWAYS told things like they
were, whether anyone liked it or not. She dearly loved every one of her
brothers and sisters. I sometimes regret the fact that Mother waited so late
in life to have me, but she always told me that she just didn't get pregnant.
She and Don were married eleven years before I made my appearance on July 25,
1966-two weeks and two days after Mom's fortieth birthday. She always told me
that she knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that I was going to be a girl. She
said that God knew when she got older that she would need me to help her. I
won't get into a long medical history here, but Mom had an acute MI (myocardial
infarction) (heart attack) in 1989. Her doctors told her that she would never
leave the hospital with her heart in such poor condition. She proved them
wrong. She really enjoyed two years of living life to the fullest. In 1991,
however, high blood pressure robbed Mom of the function of her kidneys. She
spent the next two years of her life going downtown three times a week to the
North Texas Dialysis Center to receive life-saving hemodialysis treatments-each
one four hours in duration. Then, because of complications involving the
access through which she received her treatments, she began doing
CAPD (Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis) in her home. This type of
dialysis is very convenient because it frees you from having to go downtown
three times a week. Peritonitis is the major drawback of this type of
dialysis. Mom did really well on this type of dialysis for awhile. She did,
however, begin to deteriorate slowly over a period of about six months. The
circulation in her legs became really poor and she could not take care of her
self in the home while my husband and I were at work. I had her right by my
side until it became absolutely necessary that she be placed in a
continuous-care nursing facility. It absolutely broke my heart to have her not
with me any more. I missed having her around the house to laugh with, talk
with, share my problems with, etc. Her condition only continued to deteriorate
in the nursing home. Mom battled valiantly for her life for ninety-four hours
before the toxins(from lack of dialysis) and her totally weakened heart gave
out on her and she went to join my sweet daddy in eternal rest. My Mother and
Daddy really loved and apreciated me-I was the center of their universe. I
think this stems in part from the fact that they had me so late in life. They,
in their lifetimes, forgot more than I could ever hope to know. But the one
thing that I DO know is that I had the most precious parents a child could ever
be blessed with and I will always keep them alive in my heart and miss them
terribly.

!In accordance with her last wishes Dolores was cremeated and her ashes buried
beside her husband in the Holliday Cemetery, Holliday, Texas. Parents: Pearl Huebert (Bert Edward) RAINES and Cynthia Elizabeth MELTON.
